About DownHush

DownHush was born out of a simple frustration: modern video downloading tools have become bloated, complex, and invasive. Many web-based extensions inject advertisements, track your browsing history, or send your video links to external cloud servers.

We believe downloading media from the web should be fast, private, and local-first. DownHush runs entirely on your own machine. It doesn't ask you to create an account, upload files, or trust third-party servers with your downloads.

How It Works

DownHush uses a dual-component architecture consisting of a lightweight Windows companion service and a helper browser extension:

Local Security & Data Integrity

DownHush gathers zero analytics, zero crash logs, and zero telemetry. All of your downloads, video URLs, and history logs are saved in a local SQLite database file, located inside your user profile folder. No data ever leaves your computer.

Because we operate fully offline, DownHush bypasses the speed limitations imposed by cloud conversion servers. Your maximum download speed is governed solely by your own internet connection and the media host's server bandwidth.

Built on Open Technical Standards

DownHush relies on trusted open-source utilities under the hood (like yt-dlp) to accurately resolve streaming media configurations. By coupling these robust command-line tools with a smooth, glassmorphic desktop interface and Chrome extension, we deliver command-line efficiency with modern visual convenience.
